Alexanian Carpet and Flooring is a family owned business that was started by Aris Alexanian in 1925 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The original store specialized in imported handknotted oriental rugs from around the world. Aris was an intrepid world traveller and went on numerous carpet buying trips to the rug manufacturing regions of the Middle East and India. Since he was one of the few people who travelled to the exotic lands where carpet were made, he often gave lectures colourful radio interviews discribing his journeys.

Mr. Alexanian was a legend when it came to service. At one point, when quality Oriental carpets were hard to get during World War II, he was forced to sell lower quality rugs. He kept track of all his customers during this period and offered to replace their carpet with one of better quality following the war.
When broadloom carpet appeared in the 1950's, Alexanian's expanded their offerings to include this new, and exciting product. Since then, Alexanian's has always kept up with the latest flooring trends. Eventually vinyl, wood, laminates, and ceramics were added to the selection.
